Guide · Squad tactics

Squad tactics

A captain-owned planning layer: declare your formation and XI, draw the game plan on a tactics board, write each player's job, and walk the whole thing live before kickoff.

Where to find it

Squad tactics shows up in three places, each more specific than the last:

Your club page
A public default formation and XI — your footballing identity, visible to recruiters and rivals.
Competition "My Club" tab
A private squad for a specific league or tournament, set by the captain. Seeded from your club default.
Match page
A private per-fixture plan — adjusted XI, a drawn board, a game plan, and per-player instructions.

Private squads and match plans are visible to your roster only — the opponent never sees them. Only the captain (or co-captain) can edit; everyone else reads.

1 · Set your formation & XI

Pick a formation from the full EA set, then drag your roster onto the slots on the pitch. You can fine-tune where a player sits by dragging their token.

  1. 1Choose a formation — every shape from the in-game list is available.
  2. 2Place your players — drag each member of your roster onto a position.
  3. 3Order the bench — add your substitutes — humans only.
Every lineup is 11 players

Lineups are always a full eleven. Any slot you can't — or choose not to — fill with a human becomes a bot, shown as “AI” everywhere. You place bots yourself; there's no availability poll.

2 · Draw the board

On a match plan you get a full tactics board — open it to draw the game plan over your formation. It works like a lightweight whiteboard:

  1. 1Add shapes — arrows for runs and passes, zones to mark areas, free-hand pen, and text labels.
  2. 2Add the ball & opponent — drop in a ball and toggle on the opponent's public shape to plan against their XI.
  3. 3Select, move, delete — pick any shape with the Select tool to drag it around or remove it.
  4. 4Animate it (optional) — capture a sequence of poses and the board plays them back — players, ball, zones and arrows tween between frames, so you can show a move unfold.

3 · Brief each player

Select a player on the board to set their job — pick from suggested instruction presets and add your own free-text note, plus a written game plan for the whole team. When you publish, every assigned player is notified and can read their position, their instructions, and the board ahead of the match.

4 · Present it live

Before kickoff, hit Present. Your online players tap Join liveand see the board update in real time as you walk through it, with a presence list of who's watching. It's a shared whiteboard moment — voice still lives in Discord; this is the visual.

Quick FAQ

Does the tactics board change the match result?
No. Squad tactics is purely a planning and communication layer. The result still comes from your actual EA match, synced like any other.
Can the other club see my plan?
No. Your competition squad and per-match plan are private to your roster. You can, however, pull up the opponent's public club formation to plan against it.
Who can edit the board?
The captain and co-captain. Every other member gets a read-only view of their role and the board.
